The Coolest Shops & Blogs in Town: Marianne Strong
photography by Arik Sokol
Art or other personal items on the walls is a must. I want my home to tell my family’s story and remind me of good times and loved ones. I like to have interesting lighting in every room—always on a dimmer—and antique or unique pieces of furniture that don’t look like they came out of a big box store.
Magazines are my biggest source of inspiration. I have binders full of pages that I flip through when I need a creative jump start. I also find inspiration in nature, movies, stores, old textiles, and coffee table books on interiors and design. Local inspiration comes from Jenny Edwards. I started my career with her. She has the ability to blend styles seamlessly. McAlpine Tankersley is an Alabama firm I hold in high regard. Their work is divine and impeccable.
Haven and Home
I started my blog two years ago when my friend introduced me to a couple of local ones I still read daily. I decided to start my own as a creative escape. The people and experiences that have come my way through Haven and Home have been a blessing.
