August 9: Beer Saturday

Dave's Pub • 1128 20th Street South. 933-4030

1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Meet Birmingham’s oldest brewery, Good People Brewing Company, and sample some of their tastiest brews. Learn about how the guys got started, the brewing process and what ingredients influence flavor and potency. During the tasting, guests will get to sample a selection of six beers from the brewery. After the class, guests can enjoy one full frosty glass of their choice. Cost is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. 

August 15: Art on the Rocks

Birmingham Museum of Art • 2000 Reverend Abraham Woods Jr Blvd., Birmingham. 254-2565

7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Art, performances, sake tasting, contemporary dance and Japanese street fashion are just a few of the things you can expect at Art on the Rocks. Tickets are $10 for members, $20 for non-members. 

August 15 - 17: The Avondale Music + Arts Festival

Avondale Park & Business District

6 p.m. - 11 p.m., Fri.; 3 p.m. - 12 a.m. Sat.; 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. Sun. Now in its 5th anniversary, the festival showcases the best of the Magic City’s music scene, including more than 25 live performances, as well as short films, artistic work created by area youth and other special events.

August 15 - 24: Birmingham Restaurant Week

Birmingham’s premier dining-out event will celebrate the city’s acclaimed culinary culture by offering incentives for Birmingham-area residents to visit (or revisit) their favorite restaurants around town. Participating restaurants will offer special menus in the $5, $10, $20 and $30 per person range during the 10-day event. 

August 19: Paint Party

Aldridge Gardens • 3530 Lorna Rd., Hoover. 682-8019

6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Back by popular demand, Beverly Klamer will be instructing participants how to paint The Old Oak Tree on a 24” x 24” canvas using brushes, a palette knife and fall-hued acrylic paints. All art supplies are furnished, and you’ll get to take home a beautiful finished painting. Bring your favorite beverage and cheese and crackers will be provided. Cost is $32 for members, $42 for non-members. Party open to guests ages 21 and up. 

August 20: Wine-ol-ogy

Wine Loft Birmingham • 2200 1st Ave. N. 323-8228

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Guests will enjoy sampling flights of four new wines from Rush Wines as well as food pairings and live entertainment. After the tasting, all guests will receive a complimentary glass of wine of their choosing. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. 

August 22: Chirps and Chips

Birmingham Botanical Gardens • 2612 Lane Park Rd, Mountain Brook. 414-3950

7 p.m. - 10 p.m. Don't miss out on this fun-filled evening consisting of casino-themed games, a silent auction, live entertainment and complimentary hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer. Tickets are $50, and proceeds benefit the Alabama Wildlife Center.
