June 5: Birmingham Art Crawl

Historic Loft and Historic Business Districts Downtown Birmingham 

5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Shop hop in downtown Birmingham as more than 50 galleries, museums, restaurants and bars welcome patrons to mix, mingle and celebrate the arts. This week, don't miss a live performances by Birmingham Vaudeville and Zach Doss. 

June 6 - 7: Magic City Brewfest

Sloss Furnaces • 20 32nd St N. 324-1911

7 p.m. - 11 p.m., Fri.; 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Sat. Craft beer fans from across the state come together for a weekend dedicated to learning about craft beer and sampling the best sips Alabama has to offer. There will be more than 200 beers from more than 75 breweries available including many rare, specialty and cask ales. Tickets are $34.50 in advance, $40 at the door and designated driver tickets are available for $10. Cheers!

June 6 - 8: Symphony in the Summer

Railroad Park • 1600 1st Ave. S. 521-9933

8 p.m. Fri. and Sat., 6 p.m., Sun. Presented by BBVA Compass, the Alabama Symphony Orchestra will play a three-day pops concert series suited for the whole family. Shows on Friday and Saturday will feature classical favorites, while Sunday's show is geared toward a younger audience with music from "The Incredibles," "Frozen" and "The Sound of Music." Admission is free.

June 12, 27, 29: Intro to Shabby Paints with Elizabeth Ann

Oak Mountain Emporium • 2401 State Park Rd., Pelham. 

6 p.m. - 9 p.m., June 12 and 27; 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., June 29. Learn how to breathe life into your old furniture and give it a chic, distressed look throughout the month of June. In this three-hour workshop, you'll learn how to use Shabby Paints on three types of surfaces to create a naturally distressed look. Cost is $75 plus tax. All paints, supplies and materials are provided, and you get to take your masterpiece home!

6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Treat yourself to an evening of great food, entertainment and a live auction to benefit Aldridge Gardens. Auction items include a voyage for two down the Amazon River, an original Nall painting, original sculptures by Frank Fleming and Robert Taylor and more. Individual tickets are $200.

June 13: WE Local Launch Party

West Elm Birmingham at The Summit • 320 Summit Blvd., Suite 200. 968-7651.

6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Celebrate some of the area's most amazing local artisans at the launch of West Elm Birmingham's WE Local. The store will feature products by Freshline Illustration, Happy Penguin Press, Happy Soap Company, Herring Design Co., Maya Metz Logue Handmade Cards, Rusted Willow Artworks and Scout By Two. Browse the products, meet the makers and enjoy great food from The Pantry by Stone Hollow Farmstead.

June 13: Art on the Rocks!

Birmingham Museum of Art • 2000 Rev. Abraham Woods, Jr. Blvd. 254-2565

7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Sample brews by Back Forty Beer Co., tour the museum's galleries and exhibits, participate in a paper crane art installation and listen to the tunes of Seryn, a Texas-based band featuring a layered texture of guitar, ukulele, accordion, bass, violin, banjo and various percussions. Tickets are $20. 

June 14: Birmingham Butterfly Education and Awareness Day

Birmingham Botanical Gardens • 2612 Lane Park Rd, Mountain Brook. 414-3950

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. This family-friendly event, held in conjunction with Birmingham Zoo, Ruffner Mountain and McWane Science Center, features children's activities, butterfly releases, native plants for purchase and "Hikes for Tykes," a walk led by Verna Gates focusing on butterfly lore, legend and stories based on Monarch butterflies. 

June 18: Birmingham Fern Society's Show and Sale

Birmingham Botanical Gardens • 2612 Lane Park Rd, Mountain Brook. 414-3950

1 p.m. - 6 p.m. Browse prize-winning ferns and buy some for your garden. The sale features a variety of affordable ferns as well as free expert advice on selecting and growing the plants at home. Admission is free.

June 21 - 22: Art in the Gardens

Aldridge Gardens • 3530 Lorna Rd, Hoover. 682-8019.

9 a.m. - 5 p.m., daily. Stroll through the gardens and shop the gorgeous work of some of the best artists in the country. More than 50 artisans will compete for category and best of show awards in this juried open-air show that features only Alabama artists exhibiting paintings, mixed media, jewelry, woodworking and more.
