May 1 - 2: Barking Bargains & Meow Market Indoor Rummage Sale

Columbiana Exhibition Center • 86 Argo Rd., Columbiana

6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Fri.; 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., Sat. Shop a collection of furniture, clothing, toys, antiques, collectibles, appliances, books and more at this fundraiser for the Shelby Humane Society. Admission is $10 on Friday and free on Saturday. Cash only for purchases - all sales are final!

May 1 - 3: Decorators' Show House

The Upton House • Vestavia Hills

10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Fri.; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sat.; 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Sun. Tour this stunning home and check out the items available for sale in each room. Admission is $20. 

May 3: Historic Hollywood House Tour

Hollywood Neighborhood • Homewood

1 p.m. - 4 p.m. Tour some of Hollywood's most beautiful historic homes and find out what makes this neighborhood so unique. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Proceeds from the tour benefit the Hollywood Garden Club and Shades Cahaba Elementary School.

May 3: Arty Party

B&A Warehouse • 1531 1st Avenue S 

3 p.m. - 6 p.m. Local, regional and national artists donate stunning pieces to this annual auction benefiting Birmingham AIDS Outreach. Tickets are $50 and include food, a glass of wine and live music from String Theory. 

May 7 - 9: Birmingham Fashion Week

Pepper Place • 2829 2nd Avenue South

7 p.m., daily. The hottest looks from "Bride by Design's" Heidi Elnora and "Project Runway" stars will be featured on the runway as well as creations from students across Alabama. General admission tickets are $35. 

May 8 - 9: Spring Plant Sale

Aldridge Gardens • 3530 Lorna Rd., Hoover

9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Fri.; 9 a.m. - Noon, Sat. Get help selecting the perfect plant for your container or garden as well as advice about placement, care and maintenance. Featured plants include Snowflake Hydrangeas, David Austin Munstead Wood Roses, Fire and Ice Hosta, Banana Shrubs and more. 

May 9 - 10: Birmingham Rose Show

Birmingham Botanical Gardens • 2612 Lane Park Rd. 414-3950

1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sat.; 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., Sun. See, smell, photograph and enjoy hundreds of roses during Mother's Day weekend at one of the largest exhibitions of roses in the southeast. All roses at the show have been grown in exhibitors' gardens and serve as a showcase of what can be grown in the the area. Admission is free. 

May 13: Flicks Among the Flowers

Birmingham Botanical Gardens • 2612 Lane Park Rd. 414-3950

6 p.m., gates open; 8 p.m. movie. Enjoy an outdoor screening of "Jurassic Park" on the lawn along with a movie-themed menu and cash bar. Don't forget to bring a blanket! Admission is free.

May 16: Spring Art Festival

Crestline Sports Field • 25 Vine St., Mountain Brook

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Mountain Brook Art Association's 34th annual festival will feature works of art from local award-winning artists as well as live music from the Choko Aiken Jazz band and food from MELT Food Truck and Neil’s Goodies Ice Cream Truck. Admission is free. 

May 28: Craft Night with Malinda Kay Nichols

West Elm Birmingham at The Summit • 320 Summit Blvd Suite 200

6 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Craft your own leather luggage tags for your summer adventures! Cost is $20 and includes all necessary supplies and light refreshments.
